Coffee bean producing areas

By Cafesba , 3 October 2025

Coffee bean production areas are limited. Because they are located in tropical and subtropical highlands, they are concentrated in an area known as the coffee belt, an area 25 degrees north and south of the equator.
The average annual temperature is 18-24°C for Arabica and 24-30°C for Robusta.
There is also a temperature difference between day and night, and the ideal climate is one with an annual rainfall of around 1500mm-2000mm, with a dry season and a rainy season.
Also, it is said that the highest quality coffee is produced at altitudes of around 1000-2000m.
Robusta can grow in lowlands, but its flavor is said to be inferior to Arabica.
Arabica is also susceptible to pests and environmental changes, further limiting the areas where it can be grown.
Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Kenya, and major countries in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America are all located around the equator.
Japan is said to be unsuitable for coffee cultivation due to the winter frost, typhoons, and long periods of rain during the rainy season.
Coffee cultivation is carried out in Okinawa and the Ogasawara Islands, although on a very small scale.
As expected, when it comes to coffee cultivation, it has to be further south.
